Dear Friends,
Welcome to the website of Indian Ports Association (IPA), an apex body of the major ports of India.
The major ports of India have done reasonably well in the just concluded financial year '2010-11' despite of ban on Iron Ore exports and emerging stiff competition from non-major ports. The traffic through the Indian Major Ports have increased by 1.57 % to 569.91 million tonnes while the container throughput has increased to 7.537 million TEUs, an increase of 9.37% over the previous year. A number of development activities are taking place with a mix and match of public and private sector participation in the Port Sector making it all the more vibrant.
IPA is committed to the transformation of Indian Major Ports into world class facilities for achieving International Standards in container/ cargo handling and making India as a major player in the world maritime trade. It is our endeavor to play a supporting role in the policy initiatives of the Ministry of Shipping, in exploring the possibilities of better utilization of the long coastline of India.
IPA has also been implementing a prestigious Information Technology (IT) project concerning the Ports viz . Centralized Web based - Port Community System (PCS), which ultimately aims at paperless regime with efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness. IPA played a significant role in formulating and launching an ambitious MARITIME AGENDA 2010 which provides a road-map for progress and development of maritime sector in India for the next decade. IPA is also happy in playing pivotal role in Indian Ports' Capacity crossing 1 billion tonnes.
I invite your suggestions and feed back on the activities of IPA for making the Indian Ports the most favored destinations for the maritime agencies.
With best wishes,
Yours Sincerely,
A Janardhana Rao.
